Purple Double Optic Pithos

Master glass blower David Gappa builds this pithos-form vase using a demanding double-optic method — the molten glass is ribbed twice, first in a dip mold, then reheated and worked again to create a diagonal, feathered surface texture found on both the interior and exterior walls. Deep violet glass, shot through with fine threads of white and hints of magenta, catches ambient light and fractures it into shifting silver highlights along every ridge. The tapered silhouette narrows to a compact foot, giving the piece a grounded, sculptural presence. No two ribbing passes behave identically, making this vase entirely one-of-a-kind — a functional vessel and a study in movement frozen in glass. Vase is approximately 6” wide and 13” tall
